I have recieved 5 emails from people on here paying tribute to Saddam. All the emails were saying that they all hope my son dies along with the other troops. I am angry about that because I wish nothing but the best for those people.

There seem to be many, many people with your view that something sinister lurks in the minds of Americans. That is simply not true.

I also don't believe that all those young men, like my son,are in the military simply because they want to force our way of life on everyone in the world. That seems to be what you are saying about our military, and I respectfully disagree.

You see, I don't believe that we knew the attack was going to happen on 9/11. America gets threats like that every day. We can't have the military on full alert 24/7 and all over the streets.

The US had a well-paid, well-prepared and technologically advanced military on 9/11. Which totally failed them. The military did nothing to stop the attacks. NOTHING. Don't lionize or excuse them. Furthermore, that whole thing ignores my point. I didn't say the military was of NO use. I said You had to be careful with it. It can only be used for self defense. Anything else is a crime.

I think we need the military. What would have happened 9/11 if we had no military? Should America just sit back and say, it's ok to attack us? I think the heart of the middle east, was a good place to send a loud ,clear messege,DON'T TRY IT AGAIN! It is only my opinion.

Added to that, is the fact that a military organization is a nothing more than bureaucracy with guns, and they have no vested interest in surrendering power to democratically elected officials. Tell me the last time a free, democratic, government ever came about by military force alone... and I will give you five which have brought only repression and violence and death.

3b. The military is a blunt instrument. Rape, pillage and murder have accompanied warfare since its inception. And if a leader chooses a military solution to a problem, he has to be aware that s/he has chosen a brutal path, with unintended casualties, and collateral damage.

3a. It's not a question of whether your country is perfect or not. The documents of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, with the Bill of Rights are nearly perfect... and they would seem to oppose invading sovereign countries for any other reason then most urgent self-defense.
