The story is about a beautiful temple dancer who is in love with a noble warrior but becomes a victim to her jealous rival and the High Brahmin. adballet ::: Favorites Yeah, but I don't like what Solor did. The High Bramin is in love with Nikiya, the Rajah wants to marry his daughter with a war hero and Gamzatti likes that idea and him. Everything conspired against Nikiya. Everybody abused their power. And Nikiyas's love, beauty and kindness was not enough to keep her alife. But we all know that she also rejects him cuz she's in love with Solor. OK the thing I do not like Gamzatti she, the Rajah and the High Brahmin are the villians of this story and the story is about Nikiya cuz the title 'La Bayadere' means 'The Temple Dancer' and she's the temple dancer it is talking about. 07-08-27 16:14:15 __________________________________________________

adballet ::: Favorites I think she rejects the High Bramin because she doesn't like him at all but she's ready to make any exceptions for her love. But both of them have religious reasons not to be involved in worldly relationships. They live in the temple and they are not supposed to mess around with each other. However the gesture she makes to him at the beginning does mean chastity. Also, if they didn't murder her we wouldn't have the GOURGEOUS Kingdom of the Shades. LightSpirit06 ::: Favorites Well that's actually not true. Nikiya rejects the High Brahmin because of his place not her own. She rejects him cuz he is a man of god. Sure Nikiya ignores any vow she has made to be Solor if they are any that is. And Nikiya is not a threat she was never a threat until Gamzatti imagined her to be one. Sure if Nikiya was not murdered she probably would have locked up herself away from the world in her grief over losing Solor. adballet ::: Favorites The whole thing is messed up. Do you remember at the beginning the High Bramin wants her too? He offer his helmet as if giving up his position and she places her hands on her shoulders? This is a gesture of chastity. She is saying she can't accept him because of her vow. As I understand, he also has a chastity vow but it seems that emotions were going wild there. One more thing to defend Gamzatti. Nikiya is a threat to her marriage, and a really serious threat. LightSpirit06 ::: Favorites Yes I know Nikiya dies cuz she chooses to when she's given a chance to be saved. But also when the High Brahmin offers the antidote he offers her it on condition that she renounce her love for Solor and be his instead. But she remains true to her love for Solor and chooses to die rather than live without him. LightSpirit06 ::: Favorites Well I do suppose I sounded a little over the top when I said lust. I meant that Gamzatti doesn't love Solor she just wants him to belong to her. And I don't know about any chastity vows cuz I don't know a lot about Indian religion. adballet ::: Favorites I agree they were both involved, the Rajah and Gamzatti. But Nikiya dies because she wants to and the reason is because of Solor walked out on her while she was facing death.
