damitw1969 ::: Favorites In a sense, yes. When Bernstein conducted (especially Beethoven or Mahler), he put himself in the state of mind that he was channelling the composer. He has mentioned that if he didn't feel at the end of a performance as if he just composed the work he conducted, it wasn't a good performance. He really was lost in the music at each moment, feeling every facet, conjoined with the other musicians in a whole other world.
